Dutch Wonderland Staff Member Takes Top Rank at State Industry Association
A Kingdom For Kids! is proud to announce that Herb Brooks, Assistant General Manager of Dutch Wonderland Family Entertainment Complex, was voted by his peers to help guide and cultivate the Pennsylvania Amusement Parks Association (PAPA) as President of the association.
As a royal member of Wonderland Amusement Management, LLC., Brooks was chosen to lead PAPA at the group's 2007 Spring Meeting. PAPA, which has existed for more than 70 years, is comprised of more than 50 members, including representatives of the amusement industry as well as industry suppliers and manufacturers.
Created in the 1930s by a group of Pennsylvania amusement park owners and managers, PAPA continues its purpose and commitment to promote the amusement park industry through the communication of innovative ideas, best industry management practices, and united legislative actions promoting best industry interests.
"I am truly humbled and honored to be chosen to serve and lead the association," Brooks said. "Our goal as an amusement organization is to find common solutions to issues that may be facing our membership. It is my goal to continue such open dialogue that will lead to new, innovative ideas, and support the momentum we've already begun within the amusement industry."
A member of the PAPA Board of Directors since 2001, Brooks has served the Association in a variety of roles, most recently as First Vice President and as a member of the Ride Safety Seminar Committee.
A lifelong resident of the Hershey area, Brooks has more than 35 years of amusement park experience and is a third-generation Hershey Entertainment & Resorts employee. He began his career at age 16 as a seasonal employee at Hersheypark, before making the company a career.
Since then, Brooks has moved through the ranks, working in the maintenance department of Hersheypark, moving into the role of Director of Operations and Maintenance at the former Hershey Lake Compounce Amusement Park, becoming Director of Operations at Hersheypark, and currently serving as the Assistant General Manager of Dutch Wonderland Family Entertainment Complex.
And for Brooks, amusement industry remains a family affair: his wife- whom he met on the job-and his daughters have worked for Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, continuing the legacy created by Milton S. Hershey.
"My father and grandfather were proud employees of Hersheypark, and in a way, led the legacy for me to continue in the family trade," Brooks said. "I guess it could be said that the business of fun runs in my family."
