Dutch Wonderland Grand Opening Set for May 2 and 3
Finalist on ABC's High School Musical: Get in the Picture Slated to Perform
(Lancaster, PA) – On Saturday, May 2, 2009, Dutch Wonderland, A Kingdom For Kids! will open its castle doors for its 46th season of "Making Firsts Happen." From first roller coaster rides to first tastes of cotton candy to first times "driving" a car, Dutch Wonderland provides many of the first and most memorable moments in a child's life.
Helping celebrate the Grand Opening is Isaiah Smith, a cast member on the ABC Television reality series High School Musical: Get in the Picture. Smith, a native of Pittsburgh, Penn., and a top finalist on the show, will be performing at Dutch Wonderland on both Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3. His performances are free with paid Park admission.
Additions to the Park for 2009 include a new high-dive show called A Dragon's Tale, an open-dive session where guests meet the divers; and a new spinning ride, The Twister.
A Dragon's Tale is a new high-dive show exclusive to Dutch Wonderland. The show features the adventures of Queen Gwinneth and Puff, her pet dragon. The two must defend their kingdom from an evil wizard and his knights. The show will be performed twice daily in rotation with the Park's current high-dive show, The Adventures of the Frog Prince.
Guests also will have the opportunity to watch the high divers in an Open Dive session. Guests can watch the divers practice and prepare for the amazing acrobatic shows that are performed in the aqua theatre daily. They can speak directly to the divers and ask questions about the shows, the stadium or diving in general. The Open Dive is scheduled for 5 p.m. when the Park is open until 8:30 p.m.
Another addition for 2009 is The Twister, a circular-motion ride designed for the entire family. The 20-seat ride spins guests horizontally, and then starts fluctuating in a wavelike manner. The ride will be located near the Crazy Plane and The Double Splash Flume.
Other highlights for 2009 include the return of Thomas & Friends Live at Dutch Wonderland, a stage show featuring Thomas the Tank, and Beyond the Castle Walls, a stage show that highlights the travels and adventures of Princess Brooke and her friends.
Dutch Wonderland will be open weekends beginning Saturday, May 2, and daily beginning Memorial Day weekend. Admission prices are $30.95 for Royalty (ages 3-59), $25.95 for Senior Royalty (ages 60-69) and $18.95 for Senior Plus Royalty (ages 70 and over). Royalty-In-Training (ages 2 and under) are free. Parking is free.
