Dutch Wonderland Now Offers Authentic Liège Waffles
Sweet Treats Are Imported Directly From Belgium and Made Fresh at the Park

(Lancaster, PA) –Dutch Wonderland guests have long enjoyed classic amusement park food favorites like kettle corn and funnel cakes, but they can now indulge in Liège waffles, a delicacy unlike any other.

A Liège waffle is unlike the Americanized "Belgian" waffle that's sold in grocery stores and served in restaurants. Liège waffles, named for the city of Liège in eastern Belgium, are richer, denser, sweeter and chewier than their counterparts found throughout the United States. They have a rich vanilla flavor made from the chunks of pearl sugar that caramelize on the outside of the waffle when it's baked. The hand-held waffles are sold by street vendors all over Belgium.

For this new culinary offering at Dutch Wonderland, the dough is shipped directly from Belgium to Lancaster, Pa., and then refrigerated at the park for 24 hours. After refrigeration, the dough is placed at room temperature to rise for at least two hours. Then it's cooked on a traditional cast-iron Belgian waffle press for approximately three minutes. The waffles are best when served warm and just off the press.

Liège waffles come to Dutch Wonderland as a result of the travels of Ed Hoffman, a family member of the owner of ABCO Management Services, one of the concessionaires at the Park. Hoffman, a pilot by trade, regularly flies to Belgium. On a recent trip, he tasted a Liège waffle and thought the delicacy would be a great addition to the food options at Dutch Wonderland.

Guests can treat themselves to a Liège waffle at Dutch Wonderland for $3.50. The Liège waffle stand is located near the Turnpike and Monorail rides. Liège waffles also are being served at Wurstburg Grill, located in the Pioneer Frontier food court area at Hersheypark, which is operated by the same parent company as Dutch Wonderland.

ABCO Management Services, Inc. has been serving high quality foods at amusement park venues since 1999. Managed by David Hoffman, ABCO is also known for its German Kettle Popcorn, Fresh Cut Kettle Potato Chips, and funnel cakes, among many other high quality treats.
